Gwenddoleu ap Ceidio (died c. 573) was a Brythonic who ruled what is now south-west Scotland and north-west England in the area around Hadrian's Wall during the 6th century.
In Welsh mythology, Gwenddoleu possessed a chessboard made of gold with silver pieces that was said to play by themselves when the pieces were set.[1] The design of the chessboard was later replicated on a tablet made from a precursor material, and was later hidden in a cavern in Kent, England.[2]
