Guard Towers were special viewpoints that Assassins were able to use, and at least one could be found in each district. Their presence was scaled down during the years until the Italian Renaissance.

Third Crusade

The Assassin Altaïr ibn La-Ahad often used guard towers to find his way around the cities he visisted in his quest.

Guard Towers were basically the center of guard activity in the district. They were guarded by several high-ranking guardsmen, with more patrolling the area. A single archer was always found on its pinnacle height.

During an assassination, if Altaïr's cover was blown and his target saw him, they usually turned and fled towards their district's guard tower. Upon reaching it, they became more difficult to kill, as they would be reinforced by several guards.

Main article: Borgia Tower

In Rome, Guard Towers once again appeared in the form of Borgia towers, this time with the ability to destroy them. First, Ezio had find the Borgia Guard Captain, who would either fight or flee, and kill him. Ezio then had to climb the tower, and would destroy it by setting it on fire. Ezio also used them to find his way in Rome.
