Gorgias (died c. 422 BCE) was a Greek historian who lived in Boeotia during the 5th century BCE.
Biography
A friend of the philosopher Pythagoras, Gorgias was tasked by him to locate the other half of the medallion of the Sphinx. He further delegated this task to his own apprentice Pibos, sending him to Lokris to secure the location of the medallion half. While waiting for Pibos' return, Gorgias busied himself with the ruined temple located on a hill south of Lake Kopais.[1]
Around 422 BCE, Gorgias was sought out by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, whom Pythagoras had sent to recover information about the key and the Atlantis artifact.[2] Concerned about his apprentice, Gorgias requested Kassandra to locate and bring him back. When she returned with news about Pibos, however, Gorgias was slain by the Sphinx, with his body lying in the ruins.[3]
