Georges Villiers-Segonzac was a family friend of the Duclos' and trustee of Valérie Duclos' late husband's last testament.

Biography

An old family friend to the Duclos', Georges was given authority and control of the Duclos' fortune which entailed both Mr. Duclos and Valérie's family fortune that was passed down by her mother, Marguerite Monvoisin, and her grandmother Catherine Monvoisin. In legal matters, Valérie fought against George over the will and even presented her own document stipulating her husband's desire of giving the fortune to her. However, due to the law, Valérie was unable to attain her fortune, which remained with Georges and funded her son Pierre Duclos' own allowance.[1]

Dinner party murder

During the French Revolution, at a dinner party, Valérie planned to denounce Georges to the Committee of Public Safety and call for his execution. Georges and other guests saw Valérie storm out and boil over in the garden. At the terrace with a cup of brandy, he was met by Valérie's sister Amélie Monvoisin, who asked him to give her hot chocolate as a peace offering to calm her down. After giving her the hot chocolate, Georges walked away while Valérie soon fell over and died. Fortunately, the French Assassin Arno Dorian investigated the matter and spoke with Georges. Unknown to Georges, he was a patsy and framed by Amélie, who planned to poison her sister for the fortune. Luckily, Arno brought Amélie to justice and took her to jail.[1]
