Sir Alan Henderson Gardiner (29 March 1879 – 19 December 1963) was an English Egyptologist and linguist. He created a list classifying common hieroglyphic signs and their variants.[1]

Behind the scenes

The language that is spoken in the background by the crowds in Assassin's Creed: Origins is largely based on Gardiner's 1927 guidebook, Egyptian Grammar: Being an Introduction to the Study of Hieroglyphs.[2]
