The Eastern Cemetery Mastaba is a cemetery of mastabas located east of the Great Pyramid of Giza, serving as a burial place for some of the family members of the pharaoh Khufu. During the 1st century BCE, the mastaba was inhabited by various Egyptian scavengers.[1]
History
In 48 BCE, the Medjay, Bayek, escorted a scavenger Oba back to the camp. There, Bayek met Nebti, another scavenger who was obsessed with a ring like Oba. Bayek was later directed by the Egyptians to rescue another scavenger Rashidi, who had the ring and was kidnapped by bandits from the Khentkawes Hideout.[2]
Sometime thereafter, Bayek returned to the mastaba with the ring, having recovered it from Turo, one of the scavengers' deceased brothers. Seeing that the the scavengers had no regards for their deceased brother, Bayek blindly threw the ring into the air, which felt onto the sand covered grounds, causing the scavengers to locate the ring for themselves.[2]
