Duccio was a member of Florentine nobility. He was, as of 1476, promised to Claudia Auditore da Firenze. He cheated on her, saying his father told him he "could do much better than an Auditore". After Claudia was informed of this by other girls, her brother Ezio met with Duccio outside the Duomo and beat him up as payback.
