Akhenaten (unknown – 1336/1334 BCE), also known as Amenhotep IV, was a pharaoh of Egypt during the Amarna Period. He was married to Nefertiti and was the father of Meritaten.
During his reign, Akhenaten introduced monotheism, the belief in which Egyptians were only allowed to worship one god, Aten. As a result, many Egyptians were forced to celebrate their gods in secret.
