The Dome of the Rock is an Islamic shrine and major landmark located in the city of Jerusalem. It was built between 689 and 691 CE atop of the Temple Mount, and the landmark is believed to be built on the farthest mosque that Muhammad came to during his Night Journey. As one of the most recognized and important Islamic shrines in the city, the site of the Temple Mount is considered sacrosanct by the three religions of Islam, Judaism, and Christianity.[1]
Trivia
- Though the dome appears golden in Assassin's Creed, it was not gilded until 1963. It was covered with black lead during the Third Crusade, had a cross on the top, and was converted into a Christian church until Jerusalem was recaptured by Salāḥ ad-Dīn.
- Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad could climb to a viewpoint positioned on top of the roof, as the top of the dome itself was inaccessible.
- Solomon's Temple could be located beneath the Dome of the Rock, since the temple's entrance was somewhere around a building near to the dome.
- The simulated map of Jerusalem in the second stage of the Animi Training Program featured the dome and its surrounding area.
