The Dome of the Rock (Arabic: الحرم الشريف, al-Haram ash-Sharīf) is an Islamic shrine (or mosque) and a major landmark located in the city of Jerusalem. It appears in Assassin's Creed and is located in the rich district of the city. It was built between 689 and 691 AD. It is one of the most recognised and important Islamic shrines in the city, as well as the most coveted among the three religions (Islam, Judaism, and Christianity).

Trivia

  • Even though the dome is golden as it appears in Assassin's Creed, it was in reality gilded for the first time in 1963. During the Third Crusade it was actually made of black lead.
  • A view point is positioned on top of the roof, as the top of the dome itself is inaccessible.
  • Even though it is a view point location, there is no wooden beam on it's roof to signal where it is located.
