Didier Paton was a French spy tracking traitors for Maximilien de Robespierre during the French Revolution. At some point, he discovered evidence of the Templar Order's involvement in the Revolution and informed his boss. As Robespierre himself was a Templar, Paton was swiftly jailed for treason, though he would later be freed by Arno Dorian and the latter's fellow Assassin comrades. Grateful, Paton then joined the Assassin Brotherhood.
