George Eden, first Earl of Auckland (1788 - 1849) was an English politician and colonial administrator. He was First Lord of the Admiralty three times and also served as Governor-General of India between 1836 and 1842. He was appointed Governor-General of India in 1836 and was instrumental in the expansion of the commercial industry of India, until trouble in Afghanistan pushed him to decide a war that ended in disaster.
