The Continental Army was formed after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War by the thirteen colonies that became the United States of America, by the Continental Congress on June 14, 1775. General George Washington was the Commander-in-Chief of the army throughout the war. The Continental Army was created to revolt against the British Empire and successfully drove them out in 1783 after the Treaty of Paris. They would later be disbanded and the remaining units would later be merged into the United States Army.
