Charlotte d'Albret (1480 – 11 March 1514), Dâme de Châlus and Duchess of Valentinois, was a wealthy French noblewoman who lived in Rome during the Assassins' campaign against the Borgia. She was also the sister of King John III of Navarre, and wife of Pope Alexander VI's son, Cesare Borgia, with whom she had a daughter. However, when Cesare became infected with syphilis, she and her daughter left Cesare.
Biography
By 1499, Juan Borgia was dead and Cesare had become Captain General. He married Charlotte as his bride, securing her title and an alliance with King Louis. With the aid of the King's forces, Cesare marched on Romagna.[1][2]
After the death of Rodrigo Borgia and the imprisonment of Cesare, the Assassins Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Niccolò Machiavelli visited Charlotte in an attempt to locate either Cesare or Micheletto Corella. However, Charlotte explained to them that she no longer had contact with either of them and desired to keep it that way. Following this, Charlotte decided to leave Rome and return to France.[3]
