Charles the Bald (823 – 877) was a King of West Francia, King of Italy and Emperor of the Carolingian Empire during the 9th century.
Biography
During his reign, Charles heard rumours and legends of an Irish giant who was said to have built a bridge over the sea, and so tasked one of his advisors Roger Despierres to investigate. In turn, Roger sent the philosopher Scotus to Ulster and investigate the anomaly.[1]
