Charles X (9 October 1757 – 6 November 1836), known for most of his life as Charles Philippe, comte d'Artois, was the King of France from 1824 to 1830.
Charles was born as the brother of King Louis XVI. On his brother's indecisiveness, he stated that "trying to get Louis to hold to a position was like trying to hold greased billiard balls together". After becoming king in 1824, Charles proved to be highly unpopular, and was overthrown and exiled in the July Revolution of 1830.
