Charles Grey, 1st Earl Grey (c. 23 October 1729 – 14 November 1807) was a general in the British Army during the 18th century.

In September 1777, Grey led 1,200 men in the Battle of Paoli against the forces of Continental Army general Anthony Wayne. All scout reports indicated that a British victory was certain, and Grey himself stated that he would give no quarter and take no prisoners in such an outcome.

In response, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton sent at least one of his apprentices to save as many of Wayne's men as possible.
