The Acqua Vergene is an aqueduct that can be found within Rome. The Aqua Vergene was built as part of a renovation of it's predecessor, the Aqua Virgo, in 1453 by Pope Nicholas V.[1]
Database Entry
Named partially for the virgin waters that flow through its channels and a myth that thirty Roman soldiers asking for water were led by a beautiful young girl to the source springs (how they knew she was a virgin is pretty self-evident), the Acqua Vergene is the most famous water source in Rome. It's Springs provide the Treve fountain, the Villa Borghese, the north and south fountains of the Piazza Navona and the fountains of Piazza del Popolo with their water, none of which you will get to see, because they were all built in the mid-16th century.[2]
Considered to be some of the best drinking water in the world, Romans and visitors line up to fill containers from the fountains, although after a 2007 construction accident that halted the Vergene's flow temporarily, and the chemical cocktail distilled daily in the Trevi Fountain to keep it clean, I'd stick to tea.[2]
Gameplay
The Acqua Vergene can be found in the north section of the Campagna district. It has one broken aqueduct that can be renovated by an architect. This is one of the four broken aqueducts that can be renovated, the others being the Acquedotto Claudia, Acqua Marcia and Acqua Antoniniana.[1]
