Batu Khan (c. 1207 – 1255) was the founder of the Golden Horde, the northwestern sub-khanate of the Mongol Empire. He was the son of Jochi Khan, and grandson of Genghis Khan.

Batu was murdered in 1255 on orders of his vassal, Russian leader Alexander Nevsky, out of revenge for the murder of his father, Yaroslav II of Vladimir.
