Battle of Forli in History

The only battle that has occurred in Forlì was during May 15, 1282 when there was a battle against a powerful French contingent sent by Pope Martin IV. The battle was cited by Dante Alighieri (who was hosted in the city in 1303 by Scarpetta Ordelaffi III).

Several battles occurred within the early and late 1490s, where Caterina Sforza held the title "Countess of Forli". The Italian Wars was in its early stages, and Forli stands strategically between the two cities, Venice and Florence, though Forli is an ally of the latter. Forli fell to the combined might of French armies (as support given by King Louis XII), papal armies and Italian mercenaries, led by Cesare Borgia around the early 1500s.
