Barbados is a sovereign island country in the Lesser Antilles and a former overseas territory of the United Kingdom.

History

Up until his conversion to piracy in 1717, the Barbadian merchant Stede Bonnet was a moderately wealthy landowner on the island, controlling a fair number of sugar plantations. Bonnet would often transport his crops to nearby cities such as Havana.[1]

During the mid 18th century, the Grandpré family business of New Orleans regularly sent ships to Barbados' capital, Bridgetown, to import and export goods.[2]
