Bakchias was a Greco-Egyptian town located northeast of the Faiyum Oasis. By the 1st century BCE, the town had become largely a ruin but was still inhabited by Egyptians. It was later used by Theodoros as one of the rebel hideouts.[1]
History
In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa escorted Theodoros back to the camp, after he had freed him from a military convoy in the Saqqara Nome. Upon arrival at the ruins, they were ambushed by Ptolemaic soldiers but were able to swiftly eliminate them. Regrouping at the hideout, Theodoros and Bayek formulated a plan to draw out Derratos, a general of Ptolemy XIII's army that the former was after.[2]
Theodoros proposed to Bayek to capture Derratos' scribe, who had remained behind in Karanis during the raid, intending to interrogate him for information. Bayek travelled to the town, where he found the scribe and brought him back to Bakchias, where Theodoros had his men interrogate the scribe for Derratos' whereabouts.[2]
