Actually I think that Desmond's story has been focused on prominent Western events that link together. Crusades leads to Renaissance and that leads to Age of Enlightenment (The American Revolution being the child of that). So I'm thinking in the next Assassin's Creed Cycle it would be focused on a Far Eastern protagonist with a similar Cycle; probably it would be focused on Japan and culminating in the Mejing Restoration period.
