Your father has two parents; two bloodlines. However, each of your father's parents also has parents; again two bloodlines. Your father's parents' parents also each have two parents; again two bloodlines. Thus, Desmond has about thousands of bloodlines, not just two. Or maybe just hundreds, I don't know. Do you get it now?
