One thing is though, it woud be very different if they called it Assassin's Creed Part 2, Chapter 2, Section 2 etc. (for example) because it is nodding to the fact that it is not a standalone. I would be agreeing with you and Ubisoft then. However, a number is a number. If anything I blame Ubisoft for not putting it on the product.

If anything, I blame Ubisoft for not putting this or something to show that AC2 is a section with more than one game on the product.
