Rædwald (died c. 624) was the King of the East Angles from around 599 until his death. A notably strong military leader, when he died in battle, he was presumed to have been wearing a helmet of a specific design. When archaeologists found Rædwald's alleged helmet in 1939 at Sutton Hoo,[1] they appropriately named it the Sutton Hoo helmet.[2]
