Rites of Anubis was a virtual representation of Bayek's genetic memories, relived by Layla Hassan through the Portable Animus HR-8.
Description[edit | edit source]
A familiar face from Bayek's past asks for help to break a troublesome curse on the natron mine.
Dialogue[edit | edit source]
Bayek entered Nitria, a natron mine in the Saqqara Nome.
- Man 1: Is that him?
- Man 2: It could not be, could it? Oh, gods! It is!
- Man 1: Quiet, he'll hear you! Don't look at him.
He approached a woman.
- Nefertari: You're either very brave or very foolish, setting foot back here.
- Bayek: Nefertari... isn't it? A thousand blessings are long overdue.
Another woman sailed into the scene, kicking Bayek in the crotch.
- Woman: Bastard! Neket iadet!
The woman following her led her away.
- Nefertari: That was Rudjek's wife. Did you expect anything less?
Bayek recovered from the ordeal.
- Nefertari: This way, Bayek – and bring along your thousand blessings. You will need them.

Bayek followed Nefertari.
- Bayek: I feel bad for her. But it had to be done.
- Nefertari: You look well. Better than the last time I found you. Are you just... better... at killing now?
- Bayek: Rudjek was only the beginning.
- Nefertari: Yes, your hunt. The Heron.
- Bayek: Where are you taking me?
- Nefertari: To make amends with Anubis.
- Bayek: Amends? I do not know what you're talking about.
- Nefertari: Hmph! Of course. How could you? You left the moment you woke. You know all the natron for Egypt is collected here. We send it mostly to Memphis, to cover the bodies of the dead.
They arrived at the sight of a sick worker lying on the ground.
- Man 1: Look at me. No, you're unwell.
- Man 2: I am alright.
- Man 1: You just spat up your meal and you can barely stand straight.
They approached the sick worker.
- Nefertari: Natron has other uses, though. I could use it to disinfect a wound or wash the stains of blood off my hands, for example.

Nefertari helped the worker with his wound.
- Nefertari: It looks better, Neb. I will have one of my aids bring something for the pain.
She helped the worker up.
- Man: And my brother?
- Nefertari: Recovering. He needs rest.
- Bayek: You do not need to remind me.
Nefertari continued her way. Bayek followed her.
- Bayek: Why are so many of your people ailing?
- Nefertari: Because Anubis is displeased. Ever since you left, the torches by his shrines have lost their flame. We are no longer protected.
- Bayek: From what? The wrath of Anubis?
- Nefertari: Whatever it is, we have suffered grave injuries trying to reignite them. Some have even vanished. It has become clear that Anubis demands your appeal, and yours alone.
They arrived at Nefertari's healer camp.
- Bayek: I'll ignite the torches and end this curse, or omen... or whatever it is.
- Nefertari: You would do well to, if you ever hope to appease Anubis and gain my pardon.
Nefertari called for her assistant.
- Nefertari: Suphia, give some frankincense to the men at the pool, would you?

Suphia nodded and as she left, she stared at Bayek.
- Nefertari: I don't need to tell you to be careful.
There are three shrines. One to the south, one atop the natural well, and one inside the bent pyramid. You know your way to that one...
Bayek travelled to the shrine north of Nitria. He climbed up the hill and approached the shrine.
- Bayek: One of the torches of Anubis should be here.
He discovered that the torch had fallen over.
- Bayek: This torch has fallen over. Where's the head?
He discovered blood trails on the ground and a broken fence.
- Bayek: This fence is broken. Was there a struggle?
Bayek headed down to the well and discovered blood on the rocks.
- Bayek: There's blood here. Someone fell, or was pushed.
He discovered a body in the water.
- Bayek: Nefertari was not exaggerating. This one died trying to light the torch.
Bayek dived into the water, where he found and recovered the torch head.
- Bayek: There's the torch head. It must have fallen from the ledge when the torch was tipped over.

Bayek resurfaced and climbed back up to the platform. He put the torch back to its original place. As he held up the torch head, he discovered a charm.
- Bayek: Charms?
He placed the torch head back onto the torch.
- Bayek: This should do it. All I need to do now is to light it.
Bayek lit up the torch.
- Bayek: Gatekeeper of the Duat. I honor your name.

Bayek made his way to the shrine located south of Nitria. When he arrived, he found the shrine had become a hyena lair.
- Bayek: A shrine. One of the torches must be here.
Bayek headed into the lair and eliminated the hyenas. He found some linens hung on wooden racks.
- Bayek: There's blood on these linens. Someone hung these.
He found a piece of animal flesh hung nearby.
- Bayek: Oh, this rotting meat gives off an attractive stench. Is someone luring predators here?
He found another charm at the site of the shrine.
- Bayek: Charms of Anubis. Someone has put these here, but why?
Bayek lit up the torch.
- Bayek: Gatekeeper of the Duat. I honor your name.
That was no simple task. Are there other forces at work here?

Bayek headed to the last shrine, located in the Bent Pyramid of Sneferu.
- Bayek: The bent tomb of Sneferu.
He climbed up the pyramid and entered through an opening.
- Bayek: Someone has been here recently...
He found the entrance blocked by a stack of stones.
- Bayek: It's blocked. There must be some way through. The tracks here are fresh. There must be another way inside the tomb.
Bayek left the opening and discovered another entrance located the side of the pyramid. He entered and made his way into the inner chamber. He found a hole patched with wood.
- Bayek: Something must be behind here.
Bayek destroyed the wooden patch. He destroyed the vase blocking the stone block using his bow.
- Bayek: It should be clear now.
Bayek left the pyramid again and returned to the original entrance. He pushed the stone block away, granting him access to the inner chamber.
- Bayek: This room... This is where my quest began. Someone has taken great care of this chamber.
Bayek found a charm on one of the table.
- Bayek: More charms. What were they trying to achieve?

After investigating the chamber, he lit up the torch.
- Bayek: Gatekeeper of the Duat. I honor your name.
That is the last torch. I should return to Nefertari.
Bayek left the pyramid and returned to Nefertari, who was at the statue of Anubis overlooking the village.
- Nefertari: What news do you bring?
- Bayek: The torches burn with a relentless flame.
- Nefertari: Then I pray Anubis will grant us pardon.
- Bayek: There were charms left beside each one. Does that mean anything to you?

Bayek handed Nefertari one of the charms.
- Nefertari: Beside the torches?
- Bayel: Most likely to ward off the omen.
- Nefertari: I will keep my eyes open. In the meantime, some rebels nearby need treatment. I normally make the trips, but I am needed here. Suphia has offered to go in my place, but only if you escort her.
- Bayek: It will be done.
- Nefertari: Bayek... I hope this hunt of yours end soon, before you cannot return from what you have become.
Outcome[edit | edit source]
Bayek helped the village of Nitria by restoring and relighting braziers at three shrines of Anubis.
