The Olympic Gymnasium's entrance

The Olympic Gymnasium was the gymnasium of the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece, built along the river Kladeos.

History[edit | edit source]

Built with rooms set around a central courtyard, the Olympic Gymnasium offered facilities for exercising, having punching balls for boxers, and space for wrestlers and pankratists to practice.[1]

During the 428 BCE Olympic Games, the gymnasium was visited by the Spartan representative and misthios Kassandra. Following the advice of the athlete Pithekos, she considered taking one of the gymnasium's javelins to him.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Historically this gymnasium, or more accurately palaestra, is dated to having been built in the 3rd century BCE, a century or two after the events of Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.
