Eivor inspects the Old Cellar

The Old Cellar was an abandoned wine cellar in western Essexe, England. It was the site of one of the tablets associated with the Treasures of Britain.

History[edit | edit source]

In the 9th century, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir discovered a way into the abandoned wine cellar via an adjacent cave system. When she probed the cellar, she found the treasure lying in a drain. In order to reach it, she shattered barrels of rotten wine to fill the drain, thereby floating the tablet up to within her grasp. Afterwards, Eivor was able to depart by breaking through a barred door.[1]
