Oda Nobuhide (織田 信秀, 1510 – 1551) was a Japanese daimyō in Owari, as well as the head of the Oda clan in the early 16th century. Born to a secondary line of the Oda family, his military competence brought his relatives under his control and he became the daimyō of Owari. Due to his dominion over the province, he was in constant conflict his eastern and northern neighbors, Imagawa Yoshimoto and Saitō Dōsan, respectively.[1]
In 1549, as part of the peace agreement between with the Saitō clan, Nobuhide arranged a political marriage between his son Nobunaga and Dōsan's daughter Nōhime. Having just officially designated Nobunaga as his heir, Nobuhide tasked[1] his four karō (家老, "house elder") Hayashi Hidesada, Aoyama Nobumasa, Naitō Shōsuke,[2] and Hirate Masahide with his son's education before he died in 1551. Although this made Nobunaga the new clan head, his reckless behavior and neglecting of lessons meant he had to reconsolidate power in the province.[1]
