Saitō Dōsan
Saitō Dōsan (斎藤 道三, 1494 – 1556), also known as Saitō Toshimasa (斎藤 利政),[1] was a Japanese samurai active in Mino Province during the Sengoku period. In the late 16th century, Dōsan was in constant annual conflict with his southern neighbor Oda Nobuhide of Owari province until the pair agreed to peace talks in 1549 following Nobuhide's defeat in battle. As part of the agreement between the clans, Dōsan's daughter Nōhime entered a political marriage with Nobuhide's son Nobunaga later that year.[2] In 1556,[1] Dōsan's eldest son Yoshitatsu[2] rebelled against his father over rumors that he would be passed over for his inheritance in favor of either his younger brother Kiheiji or Nobunaga himself. After killing his brothers, Yoshitatsu raised an army[1] and slew his father[2] at the Battle of Nagara-gawa.[1]
