"Death is part of Artemis' design!"
―Nesaia[src]

Nesaia (died c. 427 BCE) was one of the Champions of Boeotia and a hunter who lived during the 5th century BCE.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Due to her skills as huntress, Nesaia came to be considered a Champion of Boeotia. Her generation of the champions also included Deianeira, who became a central figure of the group. She was a member of the Heroes of the Cult branch of the Cult of Kosmos, and under her influence, the Champions changed.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, Stentor, a Spartan polemarch and step-brother of the misthios Kassandra, charged Kassandra to kill Boeotian champions including Nesaia. Kassandra found her camp near the Healing Sanctuary of Amphiaraos in Oropos Heights, and Nesaia herself wandering in the forests nearby, hunting with her pet bear.[2]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Nesaia shares her name with one of the Nereids, nymphs of the sea in Greek mythology.
  • In the novel Nesaia is male and a captain in the Athenian army.
