John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury (c. 1387 – 17 July 1453) was an English noble and a military commander during the Hundred Years' War. He was one of the leaders in the Siege of Orléans.
Biography[edit | edit source]
On 22 March 1429, Jeanne d'Arc dictated a letter ordering many English leaders, including Talbot and King Henry VI, to surrender to her by the will of God.[1] On 8 May of the same year, Talbot ordered his men to line up in a battle formation but not attack, a maneuvre that was met in kind by the French soldiers who sought to break the siege of Orléans.[2]
