John Balch (1642 – 1682) was an English merchant who worked in the silk throwing industry during the 17th century.

In 1682, Balch acquired the rights from King Charles II to hold a market in the Spitalfields neighborhood in London every Thursday and Saturday. The market later proved to be popular and became much more developed.[1]
