Holborn Hall,[1] also known as the Grand Templar Hall,[2] or simply the Templar Hall,[3] is a building in Holborn, London, where the Templars convene.
History[edit | edit source]
On 14 December 2016,[1] hundreds of Templars gathered inside Holborn Hall from around the world, including the Council of Elders itself, to observe Alan Rikkin's unveiling of an Apple of Eden with which they hoped to finally purge the world of Assassins and eradicate free will. However, unbeknownst to all gathered, a small cell of Assassins led by Callum Lynch had infiltrated the meeting. Lynch killed Rikkin before the assembled crowd, reclaiming the Apple in the ensuing confusion and fleeing with his associates to the city rooftops as police arrived on the scene.[2]
The area was subsequently cordoned off and the incident, including Rikkin's death, was passed off in the media as being the result of a severe gas leak.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The real-world stand-in for the Grand Templar Hall in the Assassin's Creed film was Freemasons' Hall, London with the Templar insignia added to both sides of the clock and the top of the clock tower. The dates around the clock, 1717 to 1967, are part of the actual building to commorate the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the original Freemasons Grand Lodge on 24th June 1717.[4] Within Assassin's Creed continuity, the Freemasons largely correspond with their real-world counterparts and are unaffiliated with either the Assassins or Templars.
