Giovanni Tornabuoni (22 December 1428 — 17 April 1497) was an Italian merchant, banker and patron of the arts from Florence. His sister was Lucrezia Tornabuoni, the mother of Lorenzo de' Medici. He was Gonfaloniere of Florence at times during his nephew Lorenzo's de facto rule, definitely including 1482, and was the Florentine ambassador to the Papal court at other times, definitely including 1480 and 1484.[1] Probably relatedly, he was the director of the Medici bank in Rome, as treasurer of Pope Sixtus IV.
He was also the tutor of Ezio Auditore da Firenze, son of his fellow banker Giovanni Auditore da Firenze, who would go on to become the Mentor of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins.[2]
