George II (George Augustus; 1683 – 1760), sometimes referred to as of Hanover, was King of Great Britain and Ireland and Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg from his ascendancy on 22 June 1727 until his death.[1]
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 1732, King George II offered 10 Downing Street as a gift to Prime Minister Robert Walpole, who accepted on the condition that the house become the official residence of all future Prime Ministers.[2]
In 1748, King George aided Sweden's king Frederick I in financing his fleet. Around this time, the Swedish Brotherhood of Assassins, who operated under the Swedish Levant Company, began suspecting some Templar influences in King George's court.[3] This concern was also shared by the Spanish Brotherhood.[4]
George II died in 1760 and was succeeded by his grandson, George William Frederick.[1]
