Damokles (Greek: Δαμοκλῆς) is an anecdotal Greek courtier. Based on a man who was in King Dionysius I's court at Syracuse,[1] he is best known for the story about the Sword of Damokles,[2] in which he wished for ultimate fortune and power from his king, only to learn that such status came with noblesse oblige, inferred responsibilities and risks associated with title.[1]
