Critias (c. 460 BCE – 403 BCE) was the leader of the Thirty Tyrants, a group of oligarchs put into power by Sparta over Athens after the Peloponnesian War.[1]
During the Tyrants' rule, Critias often clashed against fellow member Theramenes over governance.[1] Following a dispute over Polemachus, Critias attempted to have Theramenes assassinated. Although this was thwarted with the help of the misthios Kassandra,[2] Critias later forced Theramenes to commit suicide via poison.[3]
