Charles the Bald (823 – 877) was a King of West Francia, King of Italy and Emperor of the Carolingian Empire during the 9th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

During his reign, Charles heard rumours and legends of the Irish giant Finn McCool who was said to have built a bridge over the sea, and so tasked one of his advisors, Roger Despierres, to investigate. In turn, Roger sent the philosopher Scotus to Ulster to investigate the anomaly.[1]
