AC1 might be a little repetitive when it comes to the investigations, but it is worth playing.
AC2 and ACB makes the Templars out to be the bad guys, which might confuse most into thinking they're really evil and horrible, but AC1 does provide more of a grey area which is what ACR tried to achieve and what the developers are looking into returning to in AC3.
