You have to keep in mind that the American Revolution was a victory for the colonists, and that it marked the birth of the United States. It's the primary backdrop of the game, so it's quite logical that they are showing it a lot. It doesn't mean that Connor indeed won't kill any colonial Templars. It can easily be assumed that most Templars will be on the British side. If you want to complain about Connor not killing any colonial Templars, then you'll only have a really valid reason to do so when you've played through the full game and he indeed doesn't kill any colonial Templar.
Also, I'm sure if they show footage of Connor killing colonists there will be more people not understanding it or complaining about it, so I don't really think it would be a win situation for Ubisoft.
