Helix abilities were glitches in the Helix simulation that allowed the user to perform feats normally impossible to their avatar. These abilities worked as long as the user had "helix", displayed as a meter in the simulation's HUD which depleted when the abilities were used. To regain Helix, the ancestor had to collect glowing Helix icons scattered throughout the simulation. For unknown reasons, Helix abilities became unusable after the simulation's code was compromised and had to be rebuilt.

As of 2015, only three known genetic memory simulations suffered from this glitch; namely, those of the Chinese Assassin Shao Jun,[1] the Indian Assassin Arbaaz Mir,[2] and Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova of Russia.[3]

Abilities[edit | edit source]

  • Helix Blade: Helix Blade allowed the user's avatar to destroy a dead enemy's body, effectively erasing it from the simulation and preventing other enemies from becoming alerted by finding the corpse.
  • Helix Blend: Helix Blend allowed the user's avatar to blend into the background, becoming undetectable to any nearby enemies.
  • Helix Dash: Helix Dash allowed the user's avatar to dash between hiding spots undetected.
  • Helix Strike: Helix Strike allowed the user's avatar to swiftly move from one enemy target to another and kill them instantly, effectively chaining their kills.

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Although ostensibly glitches in the Helix simulation and not actual abilities possessed by the Helix host, Helix abilities are acknowledged inside the simulation on two occasions in Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia. The first instance occurs when Anastasia obtains Helix Blend, as she is surprised by the guards' inability to see her.[4] The second time is when Anastasia first uses Helix Blade and acknowledges enemy corpses disintegrating.

Given the fact that, within the same simulation, Nikolai Orelov cannot make use of Helix abilities, it is possible that Anastasia did indeed possess skills similar to the Helix abilities, which were later merged with said abilities during the simulation of her genetic memories.
