Hayreddin Barbarossa (c. 1478 – 1546), born Khizr or Khidr and more commonly known as Redbeard, was an Ottoman admiral and pirate famous for his activities along the Mediterranean Sea.

Around 1511, he was employed by the Assassins to aid them and King Samis El Felipe of Algiers to oppose and decrease the Spanish influence over Algeria.[1]
