David Fanning (c. 1755 – 14 March 1825) was a Colonel in the British Army during the American Revolutionary War.

In 1781, Fanning and Hector McNeill captured Thomas Burke, the governor of North Carolina. In response, the Colonial Assassins launched a rescue attempt, known as the Battle of Lindley's Mill, during which McNeill was killed, but they failed to retrieve Burke.[1]
