Völund was an Isu, later remembered as the god of forges in Norse mythology.[1] He was also identified as Wayland the Smith.[2]
Biography[edit | edit source]
In 870, the Viking Geirmund Hel-hide first met Völund after a near-death drowning. There, Geirmund and Völund discussed where Geirmund was as Völund addressed himself as a memory from the "gods". After claiming they were in his forge, Völund gifted Geirmund an arm-band, Hnituðr, which was connected to his ancestors and thus his birthright. Geirmund took the arm-band and thanked Völund before leaving.[3]
