The '''Tahirid dynasty''', also known as the '''Tahirids''', was a dynasty of [[Iran|Persian]] nobles who served as autonomous governors of {{Wiki|Greater Khorasan|Khorasan}} from 821 to 873 in vassalage to the [[Abbasid Caliphate]].

==History==
As the [[Hidden Ones]]' stronghold of [[Alamut]] was located in the region governed by the Tahirids, they negotiated a deal with the Tahirids governors to provide them protection from their enemies, the [[Order of the Ancients]]. By the 860s, however, Order had infiltrated the ranks of the Abbasid court and began to pressure the Tahirids, due to the Hidden Ones' support of the [[Zanj Rebellion|rebels]] led by [[Ali ibn Muhammad]].<ref name="A New Beginning">''[[Assassin's Creed: Mirage]]'' – [[A New Beginning]]</ref>

By the time [[Muhammad ibn Tahir]] came to power as governor, he negotiated a deal with the Order to put a stop to [[Al-Mu'tazz|Abu 'Abdallah]]'s challenge to the Abbasid throne.
