Takahisa was the first host of [[Templars|Templar]] [[Francis Xavier]]'s [[Jesuits|Jesuit]] mission to Japan, welcoming the missionary and giving them permission to preach the gospel in his domains, hoping this would lead to more trade with the [[Portuguese Empire|Portuguese]]. When, after a year, no Portuguese ships arrived, he prohibited Christianity and expelled Xavier.<ref name="Echoes Shadows 03"/>
