Sparta was represented by Kings [[Agis II of Sparta|Agis II]] and [[Pleistoanax]],<ref name="DTAG Kings">''[[Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece]]'' – Discovery Sites – Lakonia: "Kings of the Peloponnesian War"</ref> while Athens was represented by newly-elected general [[Nicias]], who had been championed by Sokrates and others that had held onto [[Perikles]]'s principles during Kleon's reign.<ref name="Odyssey 18"/> The negotiations took time, but at the end Athens agreed to release the Spartan prisoners captured after the [[Battle of Sphakteria]],<ref name="DTAG Sphakteria"/> and both sides agreed to return to the way things were prior to the war,<ref name="DTAG Amphipolis"/> and to take an fifty-year oath of harmony.<ref name="Odyssey 18"/>

[[Aspasia]], after revealing to the ''[[mercenary|misthios]]'' [[Kassandra]] that she was the [[Ghost of Kosmos|leader]] of the [[Cult of Kosmos]], said that she would make sure that the "sham of an accord" that was the Peace of Nicias would not last, allowing a way for an united Greek world following another war.
