As an assistant to her mother Catherine Monvoisin, also known as La Voisin, Marguerite aided her mother in her dealings, especially in the conspiracy, the {{Wiki|The Affair of the Poisons}}, along with {{Wiki|Françoise-Athénaïs, marquise de Montespan|Madame de Montespan}} to kill [[Louis XIV of France|King Louis XIV]]. However, the authorities found out about the plan, arrested Catherine as the sole conspirator, and then executed her at [[Place de Grève]]. As Valérie was the eldest child, who was in contention about another fortune, Amélie was given the items of her mother's business. Yet, Amélie wanted her independence from her sister.
